I Will Not Fall

Alone at night,

I toss and I turn,

Hoping for daybreak,

My mind seeks return,

To the things that were done,

So long, long ago.

I cannot help but think

of the shadows that fall

Across my life,

Across my heart.

Before I was conscious,

Before I could stand,

My heart was broken,

My soul was stolen.

But deep in my being,

A fire was lit,

A flicker of fight.

Forever changed,

Forever marked,

But strong and resilient,

I will not fall.
